About the Library

Infrastructure

The CNLU Library is situated on the ground floor of Nishant Nilayam and spans an area of 16,356.84 sq. ft. It is thoughtfully designed to offer a conducive environment for research and academic engagement. The facility is fully air-conditioned and equipped with modern amenities such as RFID-based tracking, high-speed Wi-Fi, CCTV surveillance, remote access capabilities, and a dedicated computer lab. The library accommodates up to 200 users.

To ensure efficient navigation and usage, the library is divided into several functional sections:

User Service Section: Includes the Circulation Counter, OPAC terminals, Bare Acts, Not-to-be-Issued books, Faculty Publications, Photocopy Services, New Arrivals Display, and the Librarian’s Chamber. A separate reading space is available for faculty and research scholars.
Textbook Section: Features classified open stacks of textbooks related to law and allied disciplines, complemented by designated reading stations.
Reference Section: Hosts an extensive and regularly updated collection of legal encyclopaedias, law reports, and back volumes of both national and international journals.
Periodical Section: Offers access to subscribed academic journals and magazines in a dedicated reading hall.
Open Central Hall: Serves as a comfortable space for light reading, including newspapers, magazines, and literary fiction.
Common Reading Hall: Reserved for students to study with their personal books.

Resources and Collections

The library holds a rich and growing collection of over 21,000 books, encompassing core areas of law and related interdisciplinary fields. It subscribes to more than 50 national and international journals and magazines, along with 10 newspapers, supporting both curriculum and research activities.

In addition to print resources, the library provides access to an extensive range of digital materials, including e-books, e-journals, databases, CD-ROMs, theses, and research reports. Resources are classified using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system, and an open-access model ensures easy and transparent accessibility for users.

Library Management

The CNLU Library uses KOHA, a widely adopted open-source Integrated Library Management System, for automation of library house- keeping services. This system streamlines key services such as cataloguing, circulation, acquisition, and inventory control, promoting efficiency and user convenience.

Library Security and Surveillance

To maintain a secure and disciplined environment, the library is equipped with RFID-based security systems and CCTV cameras, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring and protection of resources.
